Founding of locksmith’s shop in Grüningen (Switzerland, ZH)
In 1936, Albert Schmid opened a locksmith business in his hometown of Grüningen. In addition to locksmith work, horses were also shoed.
For more than 85 years, we have been working with wood-fired heating systems in the industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. Generating energy from wood offers many advantages and requires extensive experience, knowledge, and expertise. Through continuous development and perfectly coordinated system components, we meet all requirements for safe heating technology.
We inspire with renewable energy solutions and excellent service – our customers rely on that.
We achieve this not only with needs-based solutions, but also with a team of specialists who contribute their knowledge and skills for the common cause and enjoy a high level of trust, responsibility, and expertise. In sustainable company development, we can therefore count on employees who both support and shape our family-oriented corporate culture and implement our shared goals “full of energy”.

A powerful range for district heating networks and industrial applications. Industrial Systems include wood-fired heating systems with a capacity from 180 to 8000 kW. A wide variety of biogenic solid fuels can be used as energy sources.
Schmid AG offers 24/7 customer service (365 days a year), ensuring that customers are supported around the clock. With the large spare parts warehouse, short waiting times and therefore minimal downtime are possible.
These ecological heat pumps work very reliably with heat from the ambient air. There are models for both indoor and outdoor installation, as shown in the illustrated heat pump. In summer, they can also be used for cooling.
The brine / water heat pumps operate very efficiently with geothermal energy. To harness this, ground probes are inserted into the earth through drilling. These utilize the heat in the ground (geothermal energy).
The domestic hot water heat pump uses the existing thermal energy from the ambient air to heat water. It offers a very simple and cost-effective solution for hot water production.
